Oils can make or break your cooking experience. I don't need to expound much on that, since many of you know what I'm talking about and maybe that is why you're reading this post!

Well, friend, welcome to the perfect post. And yes, you might want to turn off the heat on your stovetop, because we don't want your precious oil burning while you read this post... I kid, I kid! Here is my simplistic rendition on my top 2 cooking oils and why they're a necessity in my kitchen.

Just like you need the perfect pan to suit your kitchen and your needs as a cook for yourself or family, you need the perfect oil. Every oil has something to offer its consumers, but some are better for other purposes than others. The key thing I like to consider when cooking is how I can get the most nutrition out of my foods without the idea of just cooking to put something in my belly. Just like with my sourdough starter, I soak my grains to get rid of most of the phytic acid, so I can get all the essential vitamins and nutrients my body needs to thrive. Some cooking oils are better raw, like olive oil, and some are great for high-heat cooking. Let's start with my first top cooking oil:

  1. Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is a great high-heat cooking oil. It doesn't burn when on high heat and offers a light flavor to dishes prepared with it. Because it doesn't burn on high heat, the nutrients are preserved. This oil has a high saturated fat content and is full of Omega 3's to aid in digestion, glowing skin, and an overall well lubricated internal system. Yes, that means no more dry, flaky skin or dry lips. I'll give you guys an example. When I ate avocado everyday, I noticed much more fullness in my lips and more hydrated skin. I don't know about you, but yes please!

TRY THIS

Add a drizzle of avocado oil with some herbs to hummus toast for added fats and a subtle flavor.

2. Grapeseed Oil

My mom loves this oil! She has used this oil on her skin in the summer, which left it luminescent and glistening in the sun! This oil is another great cooking oil because of its high heat cooking property. According to The Thirty, "it's the byproduct of the winemaking process...". It contains antioxidants and is rich in Vitamin E. This oil adds a nice, subtle flavor to foods, it's not overpowering.

TRY THIS

Although this is not a cooking tip, it is something worth trying. After you get out of the shower or bathtub, rub a nice amount of grapeseed oil on your skin while your skin is still wet. Be prepared for moisturized, soft skin!

I hope this post helped you and inspires you to try the right oils for cooking, so you can get the most out of your meals!

God bless,

Hannah
